In the 1970s during one of my (Lupsi) numerous visits to Bali, I became amazed with the style and quality of the carvings I encountered. I met a woodcarver whose carvings really stood out. This man's carvings had a very free style and very high quality. I asked this Balinese man if he would teach me his technique? He smiled and agreed. He ordered me a set of carvers tools, chose a piece of wood, and while my wife was pregnant and gave birth to our son, I carved my own little baby. And so it started.

Since then most of wood I've used has been found on the beaches of Bali, Thailand and Australia. Only the most extraordinary forms and grain attract my attention. From this start I try to let the wood's inner shape come out. I follow the secret patterns within the wood and can never tell what will come out till the finish.

I hope that everyone who is interested can see their own visions in the shapes. Things that I didn't.

It's difficult to say how long it takes to finish a piece. It varies every time. The harder the wood, the more time it will take. Complex curves of course require much more time than a flat surface.

All carvings have in common the use of 4 different grits of sanding during the final phase. The only finish applied is wax, so care should be taken to avoid water.

All carvings are made here in Thailand. No name/title are given to the pieces, this is something the buyer should do themselves.

Lupsi and life partner Lou have found a unique life style on Koh Siboya in southern Thailand. The term "little grass shack in paradise" comes to mind.
